WORDS World ~ week 1


Vocabulary log : Students ( that's particularly me) are to learn 5 new words per day. Students must write sentence demonstrating the meaning of each word. If a word has multiple meanings, then students must write 1 sentence for EACH meaning.

So,shall we start?

#SUNDAY

1. Notorious
     ~ Publicly or generally known as a                particular trait.

     " The Moon is a newspaper that is 
        for its sensationalism."

2. Fidget
    ~ To move about restlessly , nervously,         impatiently

     " They can help you learn not to fidge .        and explain that you need to floss              before going on camera. "

3. Billow
     ~ A great wave or surge of the sea
    
     " Curtain, for example still billow in              cold showers.

     ~ Any surging mass

      " The billows of smoke is heading                straight to my house. "

4. Snot
     ~ A mucus from the snot

     " Some snails excrete bioluminescent         trails of snot or blink their muscly               foot  to attract mates. "

      ~ A disrespectful or supercilious                   person. 

       " No wonder kids get the snot kicked          out them at school. "

5. Enthusiastic
     ~ Full of characterized by enthusiasm          : ardent

      " He seems very enthusiastic about              his role in a play. "

# MONDAY 

1. Discard
     ~ To cast aside or dispose of; get rid            of

      " Every crisis makes us discard our             traditional way of looking at things."

2. Dauntless
     ~ Not to be daunted or intimidated;                fearless; intrepid; bold

      " The dauntless heart that fear'd no              human pride. "

3. Excruciating
     ~ Extremely painful; causing intense.            suffering; unbearably distressing;              torturing

      " The suspense of the robbery is                    excruciating. "

      ~ Exceediny elaborate or intense;                   extreme

       " The songs and arias can be lovely             but the warmups happening every             hour are excruciating. "

4. Fidelity
     ~ Strict observance of promises,                     duties
     
      " A servant's fidelity belongs to his                master. "

     ~ Faithfulness to a person, cause or              belief, demonstrated by continuing            loyalty and support

      " His fidelity to Annie is amazing                   although its she is mentally                         retarded. "

5. Incorrigible
     ~ (Of a person or their behaviour) not              able to be changed or reformed.

      " She's an incorrigible flirt."

      ~ An incorrigible person.

       " All repeat offenders, but none of                 them real hard-cased incorrigibles."

#TUESDAY

1. Idiocy
     ~ Extremely stupid behaviour.
      
      " The idiocy of his actions really                    freaking me out."

2. Ally
    ~ A state formally cooperating with               another for military or other                         purpose.
    
    " Allies begins to form between Finnick       and Katniss in the arena."

     ~ Combine or unite a resource or                  commodity with (another) for                      mutual benefit.

      " He allied his racing experience with           experience with his father's                         businessmen acumen."

3. Pasture
     ~ Land covered with grass and other            low plants suitable for grazing                    animals,especially cattle or sheep

      " Areas of rich meadow pasture is                located in Wisconsin."

      " They pastured their cows in the                  water meadow."

      ~ Used to refer a person's situation               life

       " She left the office for pastures                     new."

4. Rebel
    ~ A person who refuses allegiance to           resists, or rises in arms against the           government or ruler of his or her                 country.
     
     " The citizens of district 12 start to               have a rebel against the capitol."

     ~ A person who resist any authority,              control or tradition.

       " In my experience underachieving              teenagers are likely to rebel at                    any such suggestion."

5. Assure
     ~ To declare earnestly to: inform or              to:
     
      " She assured us that everything                  would turn all out all right."

      ~ To cause to know surely;                            reassurely

       " He assured himself that no one                 was left on the bus."

#WEDNESDAY

1. Repent
     ~To feel sorry, self-reproachful, or concrete for past conduct; regret or be consciences stricken about a past action, attitude

      " He repented after his thoughtless act"

2. Insolent
     ~Boldly rude or disrespectful, contemptuously impertinent; insulting

     " Taylor gives an insolent reply to Ed's Sheeran confession. "

3. Fret
    ~ To feel or express worry, annoyance, discontent, or the like

     " Fretting about the lost ring isn't going to help"

     ~ To cause corrosion; gnaw into something

      " Acid that fret at the strongest metals are sulphuric acid. "

4. Pulverize
     ~ To reduce to dust or powder, as by pounding or grinding.

      " That night before serving, pulverize the ice in blender or spice grinder. "

      ~ To demolish or crush completely

       " The bag was supposed to pulverized in the sky, letting loose cement particles to seed the cloud. "

5. Scoundrel
    ~ An unprincipled, dishoronable person; villain

     " The scoundrel who killed her made good his escape eight full hours before the police had any knowledge or the crime. "

#THURSDAY

1. Loathsome
    ~ Causing feelings of loathing, disgusting, revolting, repulsive

     " In all her miserable experience, there was nothing else so awful and so loathsome as this sense.

2. Obliterated
     ~ Destroy utterly; wipe out

      " The memory was so painful that he obliterated it from his mind."

     ~ Make invisible or indistinct; conceal or cover

       " Clouds were darkening, obliterating the sun. "

      ~ Cancel ( something; especially a postage stamp) to prevent further use.

       " The special stamp should be placed on the left-hand side and not to be used to obliterate the postage stamp."

3. Substantial
     ~ Of considerable importance, size or worth.
 
      " A substantial amount of cash."

      ~ Concerning the essentials of something

        " There was substantial agreement on changing policies. "

4. Clandestine
     ~ Keep secret or done secretively especially because illicit

      " She deserved better than these clandestine meetings. "

5. Refuge
     ~ The state of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or difficulty.

      " He was forced to take refuge in the French embassy. "

      ~ A place or situation providing safety or shelter

       " The family came to be seen as a refuge from a harsh world. "

       ~ An institution providing safe accommodation for women who have suffered violence from a spouse or partner.

        " The refuge has been Johanna house since she getting abuse by her husband a few years ago. "

#FRIDAY

1. Retaliate
     ~ Make an attack in return for a similar attack.
      
      " The blow stung and she retaliated immediately. "

      ~ Repay ( an injury or insult ) in kind

       " They used their abilities to retaliate the injury. "

2. Demolish
     ~ Pull or knock down

      " My house was demolished to make way for the shopping centre. "

       ~ Comprehensively refute (an argument or its proponent ) 

       " I look forward keenly to demolishing my opponent. "

        ~ Overwhelmingly defeat ( a player of team)

         " Arsenal demolished City 3-0. "

3. Strenuous
     ~ Requiring or using great effort or exertion.

      " The government made strenuous efforts to upgrade the quality of teaching proffesion. "

4. Vigilance
     ~ The action or state of keeping careful watch for possible danger or difficulties. 

      " Security duties that demand long hours of vigilance. "

5. Indelible
     ~( of ink or pen ) making marks that cannot be removed.

      " An indelible marker pen only costs a penny. "

      ~ Not able to be forgotten

       " Her love story made an indelible impression on me. "

#SATURDAY

1. Imprinted
    ~ Impress or stamp ( a mark or outline) on a surface.

     " Tyre marks were imprinted in the snow. "

     ~ (A young animal) come to recognize ( another animal, person, or thing ) as a parent or other object of habitual trust.

      " The little wolf thought I was its mother and imprinted me. "

2. Frugal
     ~ Sparing or economical as regards money or food.

      " I'm a bit too frugal to splash out on designer clothes. "

      ~ Simple and plain and costing little.
   
       " A frugal meal is just what I need. "

3. Squirm
     ~ Wriggle or twist the body from side to side, especially as a result of nervousness or discomfort.

      " He looked uncomfortable and squirmed in his chair. "
     
      ~ A wriggling movement.

       " The toddler gave a sudden squirm. "

4. Ramble
     ~ Walk for pleasure in the countryside.

      " I spent most of my spare time rambling and climbing."

      ~ Talk or write at length in a confused or inconsequential way.

       " Will rambled on about Norman archways. "

5. Surreal
     ~ Having the qualities of surrealiasm, bizzare.

      " That novel is a surreal mix of fact and fantasy."
